Who is Deric?

My mom told me once that when i was in elementary school the Suits considered me as “retarded” because i had what was then (and still is i guess) considered a behavioral problem. During “story time” – i would play with my hair or drum my fingers. Always antsy to get up and move around, i would rarely “sit still and pay attention.” Not until i was in my early 30′s did i FINALLY get diagnosed as having Bi-Polar Disorder with ADHD.

Science is just now beginning to recognize that some ADHD children just can’t process a barrage of stimuli. A sensory integration disorder, some scientist’s say, might manifest as being extra sensitive to the texture of some materials and certain foods (S-U-G-A-R!)

When a child’s brain can’t integrate an onslaught of messages coming through the senses, the child may become anxious, throw tantrums and have problems in the classroom.

A couple of years ago i saw a remarkable therapist, Dennis Huffman, who helped me make tremendous strides in dealing with my ADHD. With his help I am now able to cope with myself and the world around me. More importantly, I have learned to love myself just the way I am.

[From Wikipedia]

Indigo children is a concept developed by Nancy Anne Tappe describing children who are alleged to possess special traits or abilities. Beliefs about indigo children range from their being the next stage in human evolution, possessing paranormal abilities such as telepathy, to the belief that they are simply more empathetic and creative than their non-indigo peers. There is no science or studies that give credibility to the existence or traits of indigo children. Many children labeled “indigo” are diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Skeptics suggest that the indigo phenomenon is due to parents preferring to believe their children are special, rather than having a medical diagnosis which implies damage or imperfection. Also criticized are the traits used to describe children, which have been compared to the Forer effect – so vague as to be able to apply to anyone.
