Friends with Benefits? Probably NOT

by Deric Stowell on August 12th, 2009

It’s been said before, “you can choose your friends, but you don’t choose your family”.
I had some friends once. Fun guys, fun to do things with, fun to be with, you know the sort – FUN. I also have some not-so-fun friends too. The kind of people that you put up with because you would feel bad if they felt bad toward you. No matter what happened, you just smiled and nodded, and everything was OK again for awhile.
Relationships with friends can be so funny in this way. Especially when a new person to your “circle” begins to selectively draw the others away.
I personally have felt the stinging anguish and loneliness associated with the acts of one person, in the last month or so I have gone from being actively involved with my community to where I now find myself. I guess I really AM just too childish to figure it out, my place in life. But does that mean that I have to suffer being banished to this cold lonely place that I now find myself? C’mon guys a few kind words of understanding sure would go a long way.
